Patients with severe coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19 pneumonia) may have many sequelae, which seriously affect their quality of life and work. Here, we report a case of infection in China, reviewed the course, treatment, and rehabilitation of a patient suffering from severe COVID-19 pneumonia, and collected his examination reports, including chest CT, laboratory examination results, lung function examination, sleep monitoring report, sex hormones, sperm morphology and activity. The patient's antiviral immunoglobulin G (IgG) continued to be positive for more than 11 months, and his small airway function was abnormal, and he suffered from respiratory problems (cough, chest pain, chest tightness, and shortness of breath), unstructured sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome, and nocturnal sleep hypoxemia. His abnormal sperm rate increased obviously, and sperm activity decreased obviously. Patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia may have respiratory sequela, the abnormal sperm rate is obviously increased, and IgG positive can last for a long time.The purpose of this study was to outline an indirect sign of advanced Achilles tendinopathy on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), based on the hypothesis that these patients would present with secondary hypertrophy of the flexor hallucis longus muscle (FHL).
MRI scans of Achilles tendon were analyzed retrospectively in two cohorts. The study group consisted of consecutive patients presenting with clinical signs of Achilles tendinopathy and no previous surgeries, while the control group were patients that had an MRI due to other reasons and no signs of tendinopathy. Two parameters from two muscle bellies were measured and compared on axial MRI scans 4-5cm above the ankle joint line at the level of greatest thickness area and diameter of the triceps surae (TS) and of the FHL muscle. Ratios (FHL/TS) were calculated for area (Ar) and diameter (Dm) measurements. Interobserver agreement was analyzed. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was created for both ratios to assess potential cutoff points to differentiate between the groups.
A total of 60 patients for each study group were included. Both ratios Ar(FHL/TS) and Dm(FHL/TS) showed significant higher values in the tendinopathy group (p?&lt;?0.001). There were strong to very strong intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC?=?0.75-0.93). A diameter ratio Dm (FHL/TS) of 2.0 or higher had a sensitivity of 49% and specificity of 90% for concomitant Achilles tendinopathy.

We reviewed all our patients (2010-2018) that underwent a bone transport procedure in the lower limb due to a septic bone defect. We calculated the bone healing index (BHI), the external fixation index (EFI), the rate of complications and the clinical results. We statistically compared our results with 63 publications with a similar scope.
Thirty-five patients (30M/5F) with a mean age of 40years and a mean follow-up of 45months were included. Bone segment was 24T/11F and mean defect was 8.4cm (7.34T/ 10.73F). Mean global BHI was 45.62days/cm (48.16T/40.09F). Mean EFI was 2.37months/cm. The size of our series is similar to previously published ones, although the mean age of our patients is higher and they present a larger bone defect. Our series shows results comparable to the current literature.The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy of ear protection (earplug and surf hood) in preventing the development of external auditory exostosis (EAE) in surfers.
We performed a prospective observational study. Volunteer surfers were recruited from June 2016 to October 2017 on the Brittany coast in France. Each participant filled in a questionnaire and underwent otoscopic digitalized photography to establish the degree of external ear obstruction by two different practitioners. The correlation between the percentage of external ear obstruction and the time spent in water with or without protection was evaluated. Risk factors of EAE were assessed.
Two hundred and forty-two ears were analysed. The incidence of EAE was 89.96% with an average rate of obstruction of 37.65%. Risk factors for EAE were male sex (p?=?0.0005), number of years practicing surf (p?&lt;?0.0001) and symptoms of ear obstruction (p?=?0.0358). A significant correlation was found between EAE severity and number of hours spent in water without any protection (earplugs or surf hood) (p?&lt;?0.0001). No correlation was found between EAE severity and time spent in water with earplugs (p?=?0.6711) but a correlation was identified between obstruction and time spent in water with surf hood (p?=?0.0358).
